Carmen Soo.MOV

Carmen Soo of Malaysia can be seen by Filipino audiences, not just in the upcoming teleserye with Jericho Rosales, Kahit Isang Saglit, but also in the big screen at the .MOV International Digital Film Festival. She stars in Woo Ming-jin’s Kurus: Days of the Turquoise Sky, which will be shown on October 2, 2008 , 9PM , its Philippine Premiere at the Robinsons Galleria Indiesine.

Turquoise Sky is a poignant autobiographical film that reflects lives which are depicted often as trivial and understated, but does say something about the society in which these lives are being led.

Ali (Arshad Zamir) is a 15-year-old school boy going through the pains of growing up: living in a single- parent household, smart-ass school bullies, embarrassing parents and teenage boredom. But it is the arrival of his new English teacher, Miss Liew (Soo) that ignites in him the fever of a young, serious schoolboy crush.

Turquoise Sky is not just a story of young infatuation, but also delves into sharp observations on Malaysia ’s multiracial social construct. It is a story that is so common, it is often overlooked, but is significant and as real as a childhood love as it can get.

Turquoise Sky stars Ahmad Muzhaffar, Arshad Zamir Zamir, Carmen Soo, Mislina Mustapha and Namron, produced by Woo Ming-jin, Ueda Tomoko, Edmund Yeo and would be presented by Tribu director Jim Libiran.

F-P-J @ M-O-V

Here at .MOV, we do not only celebrate the new, we also pay tribute to the classics. FPJ fans, here’s your chance to see your idol, The King of Philippine Cinema, back in action as we present his 1961 film, “Sandata at Pangako”, at the Film Concert of .MOV.

“Sandata at Pangako” starred Fernando Poe, Jr. alongside Charito Solis for LVN pictures. The screenplay was penned and directed by F.H. Constantino. Also starring in this masterpiece were Bernard Bonnin, Lourdes Medel, Mila Ocampo, Gil de Leon, Johnny Reyes, Marrieta Sanz, Tony Dantes and Baby Janet.

Now’s the opportunity to mend the generation gap as fans of classic Pinoy flicks meet with the new. Not only are we tipping our hats off to The King, we are also screening other films that lit up the Philippine Cinema screens before the era of digital filmmaking for four nights of extravaganza:

FILMCONCERT.MOV screens Pinoy classics by Manuel Conde (“Genghis Khan”, the first Philippine film to compete in Venice), Joe Climaco (“Biglang Yaman”, the comedy classic starring Pugo & Togo), and Carlos Vander Tolosa (“Giliw Ko”, the earliest remaining Philippine film, made in 1939) accompanied with new live soundtracks by Pedicab, Cynthia Alexander, The Brockas, Khavn De La Cruz, Lolita Carbon & Radioactive Sago Project.

To give a modern twist to the event, we will also have various musicians playing along with the movie to give you that unique viewing experience. This is a film concert after all. Mark your calendars.

Danny loves Andy.MOV : a remembrance of Love and Warhol

Love stories don’t always have a happy ending, but they don’t always have to be forgotten. Esther Robinson immerses herself and paints a picture of exploration and journey to the truth about the disappearance of her uncle, Danny Williams, one-time lover of Andy Warhol.

A Walk into the Sea is more than just a reminiscent look at the Factory era, but is also an homage to Williams’ talent, collaborator and filmmaker in his own right, as well as a discovery and compelling inquiry into his mysterious disappearance at the age of 27 in the year of 1966.

Robinson’s intimate interviews of the surviving Factory members is brilliantly complemented with the discovery of 20 never-before- seen films of Williams during his stay in the Factory, with the likes of Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick, Paul Morrissey, Brigid Berlin , Billy Name as his subjects. There’s also some footage that allows us to finally bridge the gap in history as to the Velvet Underground.

From the eyes of his lover, get to know Warhol not as the iconic Modern Arts persona that we perceive him to be today, but as an artist who has a deep appreciation and understanding of the fragility of the human character, which makes up the core of the empire that he has built.

.MOV is proud to present you the Best Gay Film in the Berlin International Film Festival of 2007, A Walk into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory. It’s a love story that was not meant to be, but is too great not to be seen.
